Rasheda Nawaz
Rasheda Nawaz is a professional Urban and Regional Planner, with 30 years of experience in her field. She began her professional career as a Community Planner at Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, where she was involved in land use planning issues and became Principal Planner.
In1987, she moved to Ottawa and joined the Department of Planning and Development at the City of Ottawa. She prepared comprehensive sustainable development policies for the City’s Official Plan, a first in North America based on the principles of sustainable development. After 11 years at the City, she joined Policy Branch at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) where she updated CIDA’s Sustainable Development Policy for international projects and funding. Rasheda also worked internationally with Urban Habitat Ltd. as the Director of Planning and Environmental Management -worked on Area Plan for the mega- city Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In 2005 she joined The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) as Senior Policy Analyst, Housing and Infrastructure Secretariat where she developed a Housing Policy Strategy and an Action Plan for a 10-year Implementation Plan to achieve sustainable transformative change. In 2006 she was recruited by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) as Senior Analyst, CMHC International to lead the planning and sustainable development projects in Mexico and China. In 2007, Rasheda became Team Leader, Development Planning Team, Real Property & the Environment (RPE), Defence Construction Canada (DCC) where she provided professional planning, land and infrastructure management services to the Department of National Defence (DND), in keeping with the goals and objectives of National Defence and Environmentally Sustainable Development Strategies.
Since 2011, she has been a Consultant on Sustainable Community Planning, Research & Policy Development for Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), the Bus Rapid Transit Project, Urban Habitat Ltd. and the Canadian Institute of Planners on Aboriginal issues.
Rasheda holds a Master of Science, M.Sc [PI.] in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Toronto and a B. Sc. (Honours) and a Master of Science, M.Sc degree in Geography from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
